Scott Shanley

I earned my Bachelor of Fine Arts more than two decades ago and spent several years pursuing an experimental artistic practice. After time away from painting, I recently returned to the studio with a renewed focus on oil still lifes created from direct observation. This return has allowed me to reconnect with the discipline of careful looking and the timeless traditions of representational painting.

My work draws inspiration from classical painting while exploring the relationship between natural forms and human culture. By combining familiar objects and organic subjects with thoughtful composition and light, I seek to create images that encourage reflection on memory, the passage of time, and the ways we experience the world around us. Rather than simply recording what I see, my paintings invite viewers to slow down, look closely, and discover beauty and meaning in ordinary subjects.

My artistic aim is to capture the everyday moments of life through the use of poetic brushwork, intentional compositional choices and a strong focus on the subtle nuances of natural light across various subjects.

I create vibrant oil pastel paintings that burst with life evoking joy, hope, and peace through a kaleidoscope of colors with touches of metallic hues, my art pieces shimmer and glow, making my paintings come to life before the viewer eyes.
